Justin Monk has been named the new principal of Barbara C. Jordan Intermediate School. SCUC Board Trustees approved the recommendation of Mr. Monk at the April 3, 2025 called meeting. “I attribute my success to God’s blessings and am honored to serve the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD and the Barbara Jordan Intermediate School community,” he said.
Monk, currently an assistant principal at Judson High School, was introduced at the board meeting to those in attendance Mrs. Paige Meloni, Superintendent of Schools. He was joined by his parents, who drove down from Dallas for the momentous occasion, as well as his sister, brother-in-law, nephew and best friend.
“It’s truly a pleasure,” said Monk, addressing the crowd, which included a large contingent of teachers and staff from Jordan IS. He greeted them individually and shook hands prior to the beginning of the board meeting. “They have a lot of energy,” he added, to great laughter from the audience.
Mr. Monk will replace Tina Curtis, who is retiring after 30 years in education. Ms. Curtis was also present at the board meeting to greet Monk and be a part of the raucous Jordan crowd. “I have dedicated my career to empowering students and educators,” said Monk, who is originally from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. ”I look forward to fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration and pride in everything we do.”
He moved to San Antonio to attend college and received his Bachelor’s degree in Science at Our Lady of the Lake University, where also played basketball. Monk later obtained his Master’s in education at Stephen F. Austin to further his commitment to education and leadership.
During his eleven years as an educator, Monk has served as science teacher, head basketball coach, athletic coordinator, department chair and assistant principal. “My passion lies in helping others reach their full potential,” he said. “I firmly believe in Servant Leadership - leading with integrity and always doing right by others.”
