Steven Piles

SCUC Board Trustees approved the recommendation of Steven Piles as the new principal of Watts Elementary School at the April 3, 2025 called meeting. Piles is currently serving as the assistant principal of Schertz Elementary School, a position he has held for the past four years.

“I am honored to serve as the principal of Watts Elementary School,” said Piles. “I am committed to fostering a positive, inclusive and academically enriching environment for all students.”

Mrs. Paige Meloni, SCUC Superintendent of Schools, introduced Mr. Piles and his wife, Breanna, at the school board meeting after the Trustees’ vote. Mrs. Piles serves as Special Education Coordinator at SCUC for the Intermediate and Junior High School campuses.

Also in attendance at the announcement were approximately twenty teachers and staff members at Watts ES, who gave out a loud cheer when the board motion passed. Included in that group is Shannon Piles, who is married to Piles’ father, Harry, and is serving as assistant principal on the campus. There was also a large presence of Piles’ brothers and sisters.

Prior to his role as assistant principal, Mr. Piles was a teacher for eight years at Sippel Elementary School, where he says he gained a deep appreciation for the impact of great teaching and meeting the unique needs of every student.

“As principal, my leadership will be rooted in trust and clarity,” Piles said. “I believe strong relationships, open communication and shared goals are the foundation of a thriving school.”

Piles, a product of Title I schools himself, will commit himself to bringing a culture of collaboration and high expectations.

“Excellence is our standard at Watts Elementary,” he said. “We  will create a school where learning is celebrated, challenges are embraced, and every child has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.”
