Spend any morning at Norma J. Paschal Elementary School and you will see Allison Miller and the rest of her staff making it a point to greet every child that walks through the doors that particular day. Miller, who has served as the school’s principal for fifteen years, makes it a point to greet as many children as possible by name.
“My greatest responsibility is to be a positive part of the childrens’ lives each day while supporting their academic and social growth,” Miller says. “There’s nothing better than seeing the smile on a child’s face or getting and giving a hug to a child who just needs a little love and support.”
Never was that conviction ever more on display than on an April morning in 2017, when Miller, her staff and students opened the Paschal Elementary doors to Jocelyn Diaz, a six-year old afflicted with a terminal condition and whose wish was to ride a school bus. Miller enrolled young Jocelyn as a student for the day, and upon her arrival to school, escorted her throughout the school, allowing Jocelyn to witness the entire student body and staff embrace her as a Paschal Patriot. Hallways, classrooms and even the school courtyard was transformed into a joyous and vibrant space, creating a poignant and precious memory for the entire family.
Later that spring, Miller was awarded with the district’s highest honor, the Norma J. Paschal Commitment to Children Award, ironically named for her school’s namesake.
Now approaching her twenty-fifth year in education, Allison Miller continues to be motivated by her love of children, stating, “I treat them like I would want my own children to be treated.”
Miller and her husband, Chris, have two children, Grace and Grant, and two dogs, Minnie and Trooper. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from her beloved Texas A&M University, and a Master of Education in Administration, Curriculum and Supervision from the University of Oklahoma.
